GAMEPLAY PROGRAMMING INTERN
Airstrafe Interactive is seeking a Gameplay Programming Intern to join our vibrant team. In this creative position, you will work across disciplines and closely collaborate with designers and artists to develop our debut game, "Saleblazers," a multiplayer online co-op shopkeeping action RPG coming soon to Steam. You will be pioneering and defining an entirely new genre of video game!
As a Gameplay Programming Intern, you will develop and engineer features such as systems-based combat, an open-world crime system, robust simulation of rival shopping districts that react to players decisions, dungeon generation, online multiplayer networking, basebuilding and decoration, market simulation for hundreds of in-game items, a deep crafting system, running a pawn shop or restaurant, day/night cycle with NPC schedules, open-world level streaming and saving/loading, and more. There are a lot of dynamic gameplay items and NPC interactions, so be ready to write efficient and modular code.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain gameplay systems and features for Unity primarily written in C#
- Work with content creators to create modular systems and components
- Write code with large-scale efficiency in mind
- Design AI behavior trees for reactive customer/enemy AI in an open-world faction-based environment
- Code support for all features to operate under a combination of open-world level streaming, saving/loading, and multiplayer networking
- Test, own, operate, document, and support system features
- Write cross-platform (PC/XBONE/PS4/Switch/iOS) code in Unity
- Locate and squash bugs using a debugger
- Use CPU, GPU, memory, and networking profilers to optimize the game
- Go beyond programming/engineering to participate in major team-based decisions
Required Qualifications
- Quickly adapts to new codebases and comes up with improvements for them, be it optimization or organization-wise
- Experience with Unity
- Experience with C#
- Experience with systemic design
- Experience with modular programming
- Experience with version control software such as Perforce
- Excellent 3D math skills

You will be pioneering and defining an entirely new genre of video game.
As a Gameplay Design Intern, you will be balancing shopkeeping and open world systems to create a reactive world, testing enemies and combat, and delivering polished content such as encounters and character stories.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Polish in-engine cutscenes using custom tools and LUA scripting in Unity
- Design item descriptions, combat encounters, shopkeeping systems, and scenarios
- Prefab implementation and documentation for gameplay items
- Run playtest sessions and gather data for gameplay/narrative iteration
- Balance existing shopkeeping and crafting progression
- Provide detailed bug reports and logs to JIRA
- Organize game objects in scenes and files
- Collaborate with art, design, audio and programming teams to reach project goals
- Debug and provide feedback on in-game systems

QA TESTING INTERN
In this position, you will check our debut game, "Please Buy Something," an online multiplayer shopkeeping co-op action RPG, for defects and issues. You will be pioneering and defining an entirely new genre of video game!
As a QA Testing Intern, you will be performing thorough testing, recording defects, issuing reports, and assisting our development team with design processes to ensure the best possible game is released.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Test and debug game software for bugs and platform compliance violations
- Identify, record, research, and report potential and verified issues
- Document bugs into databases and maintain ownership of bugs you’ve written
- Perform various testing methodologies (ad hoc testing, test case scenarios, checklists, playtests, platform compliance testing, etc.)
- Verify fixes are correctly implemented
Required Qualifications:
- Unity experience
- C# experience
- Experience with networked multiplayer testing
- Knowledge of the software test cycle
- Knowledge of QA methodologies, terminology, and tools
